Earlier this month, Tim O'Brien of O'Brien Communications in Pittsburgh wrote a great piece in Podcast Business Journal, "Social Media Alone Is Not The Way To Grow An Audience." Link: https://podcastbusinessjournal.com/social-media-alone-is-not-the-way-to-grow-an-audience/

I cited this article in a previous "Five Minute Friday" episode of The Jag Show, and Tim and I connected on Twitter. Within a couple days,  he agreed to come on my show and expand on his thoughts from the article.

People who interact with your brand on social media aren't necessarily the same people who will listen to a podcast.  Social is a passive experience, as opposed to the active listening that happens when listening to your show.  Think about how many times you've liked a post without even reading it.

Tim and I share the pitfalls of podcasters getting distracted by "shiny objects" like video, social media and more.  Your audio quality and content must remain paramount. Without that, it doesn't matter how you market yourself.

We discuss the intimate ways audio can connect with your audience, and the way that audience will interact with you.  And your podcast can be a branding tool to keep you top of mind with your clients and customers.   Guesting on another podcast exposes you to an audience that is "podcast consumption ready" - someone who's already willing to commit the time to listen to a show.

Finally, Tim discusses his podcast, Shaping Opinion, and his business O'Brien Communications in Pittsburgh.  And we take a look at how the COVID-19 Pandemic has affected both.
